was peaking in 2011, Sandwich Island Bass has developed a unique sound that is
getting international air time.
debut on Generation Bass with Moombah-tech anthem Silver, the Maui-based trio
from Maui, London and Paris dropped a series of underground Moombahton hits,
entering the Beatport House 100 with their debut Sandwich Island Bass Vol. 1 in
2012 and following up with releases on Rot 10 Music, El Cuco Recordings and Top
Billin that established the boy’s production credentials.
Sandwich Island Bass dropped the tempo 20bpms and ventured into the newly
evolving Zouk Bass scene, releasing one of the first original tracks (for free)
in the genre. At the slower speed, the boys creative use of percussion, vocals
and melody was an instant winner, bringing the attention of OG Tropical Bass
stable, Brooklyn’s T&A Records. Already a hit in the US bass underground,
their T&A debut broke the SIB sound in the UK with BBC Radio 1 tastemakers
Toddla T and Skream and Benga both featuring hardstyle-dance hall zouk banger
'Pon di Riddim' on their shows.
exception of a single set at Batofar Paris, The boys have taken a DIY approach
to live shows so far, bringing in friends from the Moombah fam DJ Sabo, Diplo,
Munchi and Pickster to play intimate jungle dance parties to the grateful local
crowd. They are eager to start performing outside of Hawaii after becoming one
of the first local acts to play the main room at Asylum After Hours at peak
time, holding down a 2 hour journey through house, techno and tropical bass.
